Tree Huggers

Poet Joyce Kilmer famously wrote that he never saw a poem as lovely as a tree. The legendary wordsmith likely never set foot in a salvage yard, but had he done so, he would have encountered many a oddly situated tree to enhance his fancy.

Roaming Firsatsaatleri contributor Ron Kowalke has spent the last two decades touring salvage yards and vintage vehicle collections amassed in woods and fields. Vehicles that have been parked outdoors long term have a tendency to harbor tree growth, especially in empty engine bays. This photo gallery showcases this unique vehicular arboretum, photographed by Kowalke, and aptly titled “Tree Huggers.”
